Warrenbrook Senior Center – December 2008 Special Events

 

Monday, December 1, 2008 – 10:00 – “Tree Trimming at Warrenbrook” – Bring an ornament for the tree.  Accompany Cathy Donnelly as she plays Christmas Carols on the piano.

 

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 – 10:30 – A Christmas Program by Professor Richard Roden, Rutgers University.  The blend of voice and guitar will give special emphasis to the words and music of Christmas.

 

Thursday, December 4, 2008 – 11:00  – “Home and Personal Safety” – by Sergeant Larry Frank, Warren Police Department.

 

Thursday, December 11, 2008 – 10:00 – Holiday Party – Entertainment by the Riverside Quartet, Raritan Valley Choral Society.  Dance to the music of John Babish, Entertainer, Vocalist, Keyboardist.

 

Wednesday, December 17, 2008 – 10:00 – Movie Time – Miracle on 34th Street.

 

Friday, December 19, 2008 – 10:15-11:30 – “Art of the Masters Program featuring Roy Lichtenstein” - Roy Lichtenstein was an American painter, sculptor and printmaker, who startled the art world in 1962 by exhibiting paintings based on comic book cartoons.

 

Friday, December 26, 2008 – 10:00 – Movie Time – Frosty the Snowman.

 

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 – Discussion:  New Year’s Resolutions.

 

SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2009 - Warrenbrook Members will be knitting/crocheting scarves to be worn by the Athletes during the Special Olympics World Winter Games to be held in Idaho on February 7-13, 2009.

Thursday, November 6, 2008 – 11:00 – “Stay Safe in Your Home” – Presented by Audrey Taffet, Somerset County Visiting Nurse Association.

 

Monday, November 10, 2008 – 10:30 – “Senior Safety” - Tips on staying safe presented by Sergeant Larry Frank, Warren Police Department.

 

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 – 10:30 – “What’s American About American Things” A look at American artifacts and cultural productions of all kinds to see what is American about them. – by Professor Michael A. Rockland.

 

Friday, November 14, 2008 – 10:30 – “How Do Animals Prepare for Winter?” - Rich Hoffman, Naturalist, Environmental Education Center, Somerset County Park Commission.

 

Thursday, November 20, 2008 – 11:00  – “Healthy Eating and Snacking During the Holiday Season” – by Kate Domen, Office on Aging.

 

Friday, November 21, 2008 - 10:30 - “A Little Bit of Italy” –Richard Stillman  (Leonard Bornstein Entertainments), Actor, Musician, Singer and Tap Dancer, will entertain us with traditional Italian music.

 

Monday, November 24, 2008 – 10:30 – “Energy Saving Tips”– Rashid Burney will show you how to save money by becoming more energy efficient.   

 

“Change the World Program Help Light NJ” – Program is run by a group of very talented high school students.  You will learn how to use energy efficient light bulbs.  Light bulb packages worth $30 (5 light bulbs) are distributed to families that sign up and pledge to use them.   Families can save $400 in energy costs!

 

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 – 10:30 – “American History in Song” – by Professor Richard L. Roden.  Folk songs to mirror the events and temperament of the people that formed our great nation.

 

One Child, One Blanket Program:  Warrenbrook Members will be Knitting/Crocheting/Quilting blankets for Distribution to Small Children in the Event of a Natural Disaster.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 – 10:30 – “Teaching People How to ListenTo Classical Music”.  The program will include music from the SouzaConcert to be held at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on November 2, 2008. George MarrinerMaull, Artistic Director of The Discovery Orchestra, will present the program.

Thursday, October 30, 2008 – 11:00 – “Treatments of Medical Conditions/Diseases of our Legs”. A new treatment for varicoseveins, Laser Ablation, will be discussed. Presented by Clifford Sales, MD, Overlook Hospital.

 

Friday, October 31, 2008 – 10:30 – “Halloween Happenings” by Storyteller Kathryn Weidener.   Halloween is not for the fainthearted!  Some scary and silly tales and poems apropos to the season will help us laugh at some of the unexplainable and unpredictable of life.  Audience is encouraged to join in with simple props and responses.

Wednesday, September 3 – 1:30 - Thirty Warrenbrook members will be attending the Al Martino Show at the PNC Art Center in Holmdel.

 

Thursday, September 11 – 11:00-11:30 – “Senior Safety” – Presented by Detective Ron Roselli and Sergeant Larry Frank

 

Wednesday, September 17 - 10:15 – 11:30 – The Overlook Hospital Van will be at Warrenbrook.  They will be doing Free Stroke Risk Assessments.  Screening includes:  Blood Pressure; Pulse; Carotid Artery Assessments; Total Cholesterol, HDL, and risk ratio; Glucose; Counseling by Healthcare Professionals and BMI.  Registration is required by September 10th.

 

Thursday, September 18 – 10:30 – Jacque Ralph, Manger, Community Relations, Johnson & Johnson will be here to meet with the ladies making children’s blankets, take photos and pickup the blankets that are completed at that time.  Jacque will return in October for additional blankets.

 

Friday, September 19 – 11:30 – Vegetable Hors d’oeuvre Extravaganza catered by Merri Makers Catering of Edison.  Don’t miss this chance to sample a variety of foods and win door prizes too!

 

Monday, September 22 – 10:30 - “The Fall Migration” presented by the Naturalist Choice of the Somerset County Park Commission

 

Tuesday, September 23 – 11:30 – “Panini Day” – Chef Jim Corrigan from Merri Makers Catering will be on site to demonstrate how to make Paninis.  Taste a variety of Paninis that will be served for lunch.

 

Thursday, September 25 – 10:30-1:30 – “The Magic of Vaudeville Comes to Warrenbrook” Richard Skillman, Actor, Musician and Singer will present the show, “Dr. Vaudeville.” Also featured is Bill Wisch, Master Magician.  Registration is required by September 22nd.

Warrenbrook Senior Center - August 2008 Special Events

 

Monday, August 4 – 10:30 – “Fire Safety for Older Adults”.  Fire Safety Program and Drill.  This Program is designed to inform and inspire older adults and their caregiversabout fire prevention and fire emergency behavior.  Warren Fire Chief Tim McGowan and Betty Rabywill be available to answer questions and discuss fire safety.

 

Thursday, August 7 – 11:15 – Food Stamp Program - Presented by Debbie Miller of the Somerset County Social Services Organization.

 

Friday, August 15 – 10:30 – Independence Day in India (August 15, 1947) – Program Will Be Presented by The Warrenbrook Members from India.

 

Wednesday, August 20 – 10:30 – Warrenbrook’s Annual Picnic – Fun, Games, Prizes and Live Entertainment By Guitarist, Vocalist, Jerry Castaldo.  Hamburgers will be prepared on site by Merri-Makers Caterers.

 

Thursday, August 21 – 11:45 – Spaghetti Day!!!! – Presented by Warrenbrook Senior Center Associates. 

 

Wednesday, August 27 – 10:15 – “Art of the Masters” – Presented by Creative Notions, will feature Camille Pissarro, Oil Pastels.
