Cedar Grove historian Phil Jaeger will
be the featured speaker at the Warren Township Historical

at the historic Kirch-Ford House, corner Mt. Bethel and Reinmann Roads
in Warren. Jaeger’s topic will be
“Castles of New Jersey.”

“Although not as numerous or grand at their European counterparts,” says
Jaeger, “a surprisingly large number of ‘castles’ were built in New
Jersey during the 19th century.” Jaeger’s slide program
features such well-known castles as Lambert’s in Paterson and Kip’s in
Essex County as well as lesser-known ones throughout the state,

Mount Bethel Baptist Meeting House
Joseph W. Hammond, a well-known architectural historian who has
just completed an in-depth study of the Mount Bethel Baptist
Meeting House, will present his findings on Sunday, May 18th,
at 2 pm at the Meeting House. The public is invited to attend
his talk, which will include a tour of the meeting house that
will illustrate his discoveries.
"Be prepared for some startling revelations." said Historical
Society president Alan A. Siegel. "Hammond's study will open our
eyes to the immense historical value of what he has termed 'the
oldest intact religious structure in Somerset County."
Hammond recently completed his study under the auspices of
Westfield Preservation Consultants, which was hired by the
township to survey the historic site. |

2003 Strawberry Festival -
A celebration of the strawberry season was given at the Kirch-Ford
house. An open hearth cooking demonstration was ongoing throughout the
afternoon, and a variety of delicious strawberry pastries, made by
members of the Historical Society, were also on hand.
